Ireland's Katie Taylor outpointed France's Estelle Mossely in the 60kg final in Bucharest to claim her sixth consecutive European title.

The Olympic champion set up a rematch of the 2013 European Amateur final after a semi-final win over Denista Eliseeva, who was the last opponent to defeat her back in 2011.

And the Wicklow fighter, who was competing in her 16th consecutive final in all competitions, put in an assured performance in the gold-medal bout after overcoming an early opening round flourish from her rival.

She showed composure in the second round as she patiently traded blows with Mossely before stepping up her work-rate to dominate her opponent in the third.

Taylor, who turned 28 on Monday, asserted her technical superiority in the fourth with a flurry of head shots in the closing stages as she scored a unanimous decision on the judges' scorecards.

Elsewhere, there was disappointment for English duo Natasha Jonas and Stacey Copeland who both had to settle for silver medals.

Jonas lost in the 64kg final to Anastasia Beliakova of Russia while Stockport's Copeland was defeated by Azerbaijani Elena Vystropova in the 69kg category.
