Carl Froch: Preparing for the biggest fight of his career
Carl Froch will spend the final hours before tonight's ring walk battling to keep his nerves under control.
A sold-out Wembley Stadium will witness Froch's latest defence of his IBF and WBA super-middleweight belts as he aims to put to bed the controversy surrounding November's victory over bitter rival George Groves.
The 36-year-old champion is in his 12th straight world title fight and has been boxing since the age of 10.
But speaking to Sky Sports News after Saturday's check weigh-in - at which both fighters comfortably made the 178lbs limit - Froch admitted a 12-year professional career had not prepared him for the sheer size of tonight's Sky Sports Box Office spectacular.
"I'm just trying to kill the clock now until ring walk," he said. "If I think too much about the size of Wembley and the magnitude of the event it can be a little overwhelming - I've got to be honest. I've got to just keep cool and calm.
"Even at my level of experience, with all the world title fights I've been involved in, this is bigger than anything.
"If I sit and think about it I can feel my heart beating. I know tonight I'm going to be very nervous, and that's going to switch me on, so throughout the day I don't really want to think about it or talk about it too much."
While Groves had the benefit of staying in his west London home on the eve of the fight, Froch spent Friday watching films and has "a couple more" to keep him occupied over the coming hours.
Then it will be a case of channelling his nervous energy in the right way ahead of a fight he starts as favourite.
He said: "I feel strong and fit, I'm in a good place so it's just about mentally fine-tuning the final preparations.
"It's the last hour or two you've got to focus and switch on - not now or I'll burn up nervous energy all day.
"I'm not really the nervous type, but it's nerve-racking. This is a big, big fight - by far the biggest night of my life as a fighter.
"I've just got to stay cool, hold it together and stay strong."
