Arthur Abraham's promoter has admitted talks over a WBO super-middleweight title bout with Liverpudlian Paul Smith are underway.
Abraham recently regained the belt with a rematch victory over German compatriot Robert Stieglitz and made a successful defence against Nikola Sjekloca a fortnight ago.
The 31-year-old Smith is in action on Sky Sports on Saturday when he faces David Sarabia, and Abraham's promoter Kalle Sauerland will be tuning in having begun negotiations with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn over a possible autumn clash.
"We are in talks with Eddie and will certainly be watching the show in Cardiff," said Sauerland. "Paul is number three in the WBC rankings and his style and Arthur's style would make for an explosive fight and a treat for the fans."
Hearn added: "We've been talking with Kalle for a while now and I hope to get this fight made in the next week or so. Paul is the leading available contender in the WBO and will bring plenty of support to Germany for the fight but more importantly poses a live threat to Arthur."
Smith is not the only member of his family trying to cause a stir with an emphatic performance in Wales - his young brother Callum defends his WBC international super middleweight title against Swansea's Tobias Webb.
