Tony Bellew: Looking forward to fighting as a cruiserweight

Tony Bellew is looking forward to show Sky Sports viewers he is no back number as he starts his journey as a cruiserweight.

The Liverpudlian fought for the WBC light-heavyweight title in his last fight, going down to Adonis Stevenson in six rounds.

However, he had been struggling to make the weight for some time and a move up a division could be the making of the 31-year-old.

"The truth of the matter is I was a stone heavier on the night of the fight and two stone heavier a week after the fight, so putting on weight hasn't been a problem it's just a case of doing it the right way," he told Sky Sports.

"My training has gone fantastic and come Saturday night people are going to see what I'm all about and I'm going to put on a fantastic performance.

"The realistic aim is to get as highly ranked as I was at light-heavyweight. This division has some fantastic champions in Marco Huck and Juan Pablo Hernandez.

"I respect them all but I think I can bring something different to the division, speed and power. People will go on about size but you'll the size on Saturday."

Bellew takes on 37-year-old Russian Valery Brudov at the Echo Arena this weekend and he believes the fight will prove that he belongs in this division.

"Brudov is an established cruiserweight so let's see if he is bigger than me," he added. "Let's see if he can take what I've got, because in my mind he can't.

"He's got good credentials, he's good at what he does and he's a solid all-round professional. I know what I'm going in with - this guy's got more knockouts than I've had fights - so this is a tough, hard test but one that I'm ready for.

"It's one I demanded and once I get Brudov out of the way then it's only going to be upwards, I just think you're going to see me in exciting fights again and in a division that I should be in."
