Olympic champion Vasyl Lomachenko narrowly missed out on making history as he was beaten on a split points decision by Orlando Salido.

The Ukrainian, who won Olympic gold in 2008 and 2012, was attempting to win the WBO featherweight title in just his second professional fight but was narrowly defeated.

Salido had winning scores of 116-112 and 115-113, and the third judge scored it 115-113 for Lomachenko.

Mexican Salido, 33, failed to make weight for the fight, having already decided this would be his last bout at 126 pounds, so the title will become vacant.
