Tony Conquest defeated Australian Daniel Ammann on points to claim the vacant Commonwealth cruiserweight title at York Hall in Bethnal Green.
The Romford fighter dominated the contest with a higher work-rate and fast hands, often beating Ammann to the punch.
Some big right hands had Ammann wobbling in the eighth round and heading into the championship rounds the Aussie was in need of a stoppage.
A clash of heads in the 11th opened a cut by Ammann's eye and although he was allowed to continue it was essentially the final straw.
Conquest took the verdict by 119-109 and 118-110 (twice) and will now take plenty of interest in the British title fight between champion Jon-Lewis Dickinson and Neil Dawson on March 29.
Nathan Cleverly had been due to fight Ammann on his first outing at the 200lb limit before suffering an injury.
Also on the York Hall show, Chris Eubank Jr moved to 13-0 with an impressive third round stoppage of Alistair Warren.
