Anthony Crolla: Wants shot at Ricky Burns' world title

Anthony Crolla will take on John Simpson next month on the undercard of long-term target Ricky Burns' headline show.

The Manchester lightweight will defend his WBO inter-continental title in Glasgow against Scot Simpson, who was defeated by Tommy Coyle in November on his first outing at the 135lb limit.

And Crolla is hoping to grab the attention of Burns on March 1 as he continues to target the world champion's WBO belt.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said: "Anthony is gunning for a shot at Ricky Burns in 2014.

"Victory over John Simpson and a ranked opponent on the April 19 show in Manchester will put him in prime position."

Burns' opponent on the night of his 10th world title fight is American Terence Crawford, while the bill at Glasgow's SECC also features Olympic champion Anthony Joshua and the lightweight contest between Scott Cardle and Paul Appleby.

Watch all the action from Glasgow live on Sky Sports 2, from 7pm on March 1.
