Former British and Commonwealth champion David Price has split from trainer Adam Booth and will now team up with Tommy Brooks who has previously worked with Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and both Klitschko brothers.

The Liverpool heavyweight, who suffered successive stoppage defeats to Tony Thompson earlier this year, began working with Booth just two months ago after ending his working relationship with long-time trainer Franny Smith.

The 30-year-old was training in London four days a week under the tutelage of Booth but will now return to base himself in his home city, with New Jersey-based Brooks flying in for training camps.

And Brooks, who previously trained British heavyweight Tony Jeffries prior to the Sunderland boxer's retirement due to persistent hand injuries, insists Price has all the qualities required of a future world champion.

"I have been waiting for the phone to ring to work with a fighter who can make it to the top," Brooks said.

"The heavyweight division is becoming very exciting again with a fresh young crop of talent coming through and Britain has some of the best prospects, but David has all the attributes needed to dominate the division."

Brooks had been in the frame to train Price prior to the Liverpool boxer's switch to Sauerland Promotions last month.

Price was due to fight Russian Evgeny Orlov in Germany earlier this month but was forced to postpone the bout because of a virus.

The contest has been rescheduled for January 25 in Stuttgart.
