Dereck Chisora successfully defended his WBO International heavyweight title with a third round stoppage over Ondrej Pala at the Copper Box in London.

The Finchley fighter clubbed Pala into the corner in the third round and the referee had no choice but to stop the fight when the stunned Czech fighter turned his back on the action.

A slimmer looking Chisora started the fight slowly and almost paid the price when a clubbing left hook from the challenger caught him flush on the side of the head at the end of round one.

At the start of round two Chisora walked straight on to another heavy left that forced him to retreat while his head cleared.

Heavy ammunition

But the Finchley fighter fired back with some heavy ammunition of his own and had Pala backed up with a hefty right of his own just before the bell.

The end came in the third when Chisora, showing much more energy and intent, battered the Czech into submission in the corner with a series of heavy blows.

Pala was hurt and confused with his back to the action in the corner, and the referee stepped in to end the bout with 35 seconds left of the round.

The victory, Chisora's fourth stoppage of the year which took his record to 19

wins from 23 fights, ensured he defended his WBO International title and took

the vacant WBA belt which was also on the line.

"Fair play to the guy. He hit me with some good shots, but he didn't hurt me," Chisora said. "I want a big opponent, someone who can test me, and that's what we're pushing for now.

"It's all about getting into the right position to fight for those titles. I've just got to keep fighting and keep winning."
