Jamie McDonnell: Stripped of IBF title

The International Boxing Federation have stripped Jamie McDonnell of his world bantamweight title for failing to defend it in the designated time period.

Negotiations with mandatory challenger Yusi Malinga have not been concluded and the delays have cost the 27-year-old his belt.

"Jamie McDonnell did not supply signed contracts for his mandatory defence scheduled for November 9 within the prescribed time according to IBF rule," read an IBF statement.

Doncaster's McDonnell won the vacant title in May with a majority points decision over Julio Ceja at the Keepmoat Stadium in his hometown.
