Darren Barker's hoping to continue Britain's dominance over Australia, by lifting the IBF belt this weekend, against Daniel Geale in Atlantic City.

Darren Barker says he will continue Britain's summer sporting dominance over Australia by beating Daniel Geale and taking his IBF middleweight title this weekend.

Proud Brit Barker takes on Australian Geale in Atlantic City for the IBF title, and following a successful Lions tour Down Under and England winning the Ashes, he is hoping to continue that streak.

"Someone asked me a couple of weeks ago, I think it was an Australian journalist, about us beating the Aussies a couple of times in the rugby and doing well in the cricket and I said I'm definitely beating Daniel Geale," said Barker.

Not that the Barnet fighter is taking his opponent lightly, as he believes he is a solid world champion and needs to be respected.

"He's a good fighter," Barker added. "As I've said a number of times. A lot of people think I'm underestimating him but they don't hand out genuine world titles for nothing."

Mentality

And Barker is in the best possible frame of mind for the challenge, according to trainer Tony Sims, who has never seen him in a better mental state before a big fight.

"It's all he's got on his brain," said Sims. "He goes to bed dreaming about the fight, and wakes up talking about the fight and that's how you've got to be.

"I was chatting to him the other day and I said 'mentally you're the best I've ever seen you' and that how you've got to be to win a world title."

Geale is also aware he is flying the flag for his country though, and after a disappointing summer Down Under he wants to bring back some cheer.

"I've definitely got to get one back - I've got to turn the tides," said Geale. "I said before I left Australia I'm going to turn the tides and get one back for us now so the Aussies can start to win a few."
