George Groves has dismissed suggestions that his world title bout with Carl Froch has come too early in his career.
The 25-year-old will fight fellow Englishman Froch for his IBF and WBA super middleweight titles in either late November or early December.
Groves is unbeaten in 19 bouts, winning 15 by knockout, and he believes the time is right for him to fight for a world title.
The London boxer told Sky Sports News: "Look at the good world champions, past and present. They usually challenge for a world title around the 20-bout mark.
"They usually have to take on older, more experienced guys and they don't always fall short.
"Everyone is going to be saying that this is step too far for me right now, but it's not. I've been written off and been the underdog before but I actually relish that."
Froch was critical of Groves when he sparred with Mikkel Kessler prior to their rematch last May, but Groves believes he did Froch a favour.
"The only person whose nose was bent out of shape was Carl," said Groves. "You've got to go out and do what's right for you.
"I actually did Carl a favour because I went out and softened Kessler up. Before their first fight I sparred with Carl and maybe I softened him up, because Kessler won that fight.
"There was no better sparring partner for me at the time. Mikkel wanted me out there for sparring and we did a few rounds."
Groves believes Froch is a better fighter than Kessler but has rubbished calls from the Nottingham fighter to "give the fans a British dust-up".
"It's interesting that Carl is already asking me to conform to a certain style of boxing for this fight," said Groves.
"I have a few variations in the way I can approach this fight, whereas Carl is very one-dimensional and likes to brawl his way through fights.
"I think I'm going to win and it would be hard to Carl to come back from that. He's been a good ambassador for British boxing. He's won world titles and been at a high level for a long time.
"I know Carl will bring his 'A-game' but I hope he doesn't underestimate me and believe his own hype."
