Tony Thompson (r): Aiming for a leaner look for his rematch with David Price
Tony Thompson believes he will be in top shape to face David Price in Liverpool on July 6 but rejected claims that he was out of condition for the first bout between the pair.
The American defeated Liverpool's Price with a second round KO in February, a result that shocked many, but Washington DC fighter is aiming to prove it was no fluke at the Echo Arena.
Thompson will arrive on Thursday with two additional trainers, brought along at his own expense, and says he plans to weigh in significantly lighter than his career heaviest 262lb his previous fight with Price.
"I'll be even fitter this time," said the two-time world heavyweight title challenger. "People will not believe me but I was in good shape and fit for the last fight. There was a bloaty look, but I was in shape.
"I won't be near 262lb or that bloated next time although I might have the 1990s Larry Holmes body, and I can't help that, but I won't be looking like Butterbean.
"I am going to be a lot better to look at, but I won't be in better shape because I was fit."
Having handed Price his first professional defeat last time out, Thompson knows it will be even more difficult against a highly motivated opponent and a partisan home crowd.
He added: "Most important is that I am here to win again and although I expect it to be tougher, the crowd will fall silent again when I win."
