Mikey Garcia partially made up for the disappointment of losing his WBO featherweight title by stopping Juan Manuel Lopez in the fourth round of their bout in Dallas on Saturday night.
The belt was made vacant after Garcia failed to make the featherweight weight limit (126 pounds) by two pounds on Friday although Lopez would have regained it had he managed to win.
Instead, Garcia (32-0) maintained his unbeaten record when a fierce left hand floored his opponent in the fourth round, sealing the 27th knockout of his career in the process.
The Californian had won the title from Orlando Salido via a unanimous decision in his previous fight back in January in New York but missed the chance to make his first defence.
Defeat was the third of Lopez's career with the other two being at the hands of Salido - including the 10th round stoppage in March 2012 which ended his title reign.
