Gavin Rees (R) is looking to get back into world title contention

Sky Bet

Gavin Rees is hoping victory over Anthony Crolla on June 29 will propel him to another tilt at the world title.

The Welsh lightweight returns to the ring for the first time in Bolton since his defeat to WBC champion Adrien Broner earlier this year, when he was stopped in five rounds.

Despite the loss Rees's profile in the United States was raised and the former light-welterweight champion believes there is more to come.

"The loss didn't change my perspective, I was straight back in the gym and training hard, back down to the nitty-gritty and trying to improve my style," he said.

"Everyone's asking about Ricky Burns and of course it would be a great fight, he's got the belts and that's why we're both chasing him.

"Training's gone well, the weight's good so hopefully I'll put on a great display and get myself back to the top of the tree.

"Crolla's one of the top lightweights in Britain. I've never boxed in Bolton before, it's more or less Crolla's backyard so it goes to show I'll fight anyone, anywhere.

"It should be a great fight."
