James DeGale improved his record to 16-1 when Stjepan Bozic was pulled out by his corner after four rounds of their super-middleweight contest at Bluewater in Kent on Saturday evening.
DeGale, the 2008 Olympic middleweight champion, dominated the opening round and landed some solid body shots against former world-title challenger Bozic, who once beat Carl Froch back in their amateur days.
The British fighter continued to force the pace in the next three rounds despite being warned twice for landing low blows with his left hand - on each occasion allowing his 38-year-old opponent some much-needed respite.
The veteran Croat had a cut and some swelling above his left eye by this stage and his corner decided to spare him further punishment rather than send him out for the fifth.
On the undercard, Chris Eubank Jr went to 10-0 as a professional with an eighth-round technical knockout of Tyan Booth.
And Kid Galahad (14-0) also maintained his strong start in the paid ranks, stopping Isaac Nettey in the fifth round.
