Carl Froch: threw almost 1,000 punches in win over Kessler

Sky Bet

Carl Froch is against returning to America to avenge his defeat to Andre Ward, should the pair agree to a rematch.

Froch wants to fight Ward again in a bid to set the record straight following his unanimous points loss to the American in Atlantic City back in 2011.

The Nottingham-born IBF and WBA champion only has two defeats to his name and he avenged one of those losses on Saturday night following a points decision over Mikkel Kessler in front of a sell-out crowd in London's 02 Arena.

Carl Froch speaks to Sky Sports News after beating Mikkel Kessler on points at the O2 Arena.

The duo have already spoken about a possible reunion with the 29-year-old American, who is ranked number two pound-for-pound fighter in the world behind Floyd Mayweather Jr, immediately stating Froch would need to return to the States if he is serious about cementing his legacy.

However, Froch has rejected the notion, saying that Ward should agree to fight in the United Kingdom if he wants the pair to go toe-to-toe once more.

Nonsense

"Andre Ward is talking nonsense. He's desperate for a fight. He's got nowhere to go. Someone needs to remind him I'm the IBF and WBA champion and he's not got a belt," Froch told Sky Sports.

"Andre Ward should come to the UK. I've boxed Andre Ward in America. He should come to the UK and fight me, it's as simple as that. Why do I need to travel? Why do I need to go to America to become a star?

"I've been to America on numerous occasions. I know what it's like to be on the road and travel. I've had lots of success away from home.

Andre Ward says he would prefer to fight Carl Froch in the States but insists the UK is not out of the question.

"But as the champion, I'm holding two belts at the minute. Andre Ward needs me more than I need him. I'd like to fight him as I'd like to be given the opportunity to avenge a defeat, but I've got other options. Andre Ward's got no options.

"He's living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks I'm going to fly out to California and fight him in his home town or anywhere in America for that matter and let him think he's holding all the cards and calling the shots.

Serious

"Let's get him over here, if he's serious about the fight. It would be fantastic. It would be the biggest in Britain since the Froch v Kessler fight."

Froch threw nearly 1,000 punches in his victory on Saturday night and while the bout did take a lot out of him he remains on cloud nine following the success.

"I've not had any sleep, I'm still buzzing on adrenaline. I'm still coming down to earth. Great night, fantastic," he continued. "I know I got hit with a few shots I shouldn't have got hit with, but I'm feeling good. Not too many bumps and bruises.

"I've defended my title and got a win back against Mikkel Kessler, so I've avenged an initial loss so I'm feeling very, very good. Very pleased and very proud of myself, given myself a pat on the back."
