Lee Selby: Hoping to land world title shot in the future
Lee Selby will defend his Commonwealth featherweight title against unbeaten Australian Corey McConnell in Blackpool on April 20.
Promoter Eddie Hearn hopes to steer Selby towards a world title shot, but first he must get past Australian champion McConnell on the undercard of the Brian Rose-Joachim Alcine fight at the Winter Gardens, live on Sky Sports.
McConnell will fight away from his home country for the first time in his career and will be hoping to disrupt the ambitious plans for Selby, who is expected to co-headline a big show in Cardiff on June 15 alongside Gavin Rees.
"I can't wait to watch Lee in action and he will have his work cut out against a motivated McConnell," said Hearn.
"McConnell has an exciting style and will come to fight but in my opinion Selby is the new star of British boxing and I'm looking for him to make a major statement in Blackpool."
Rose has world title aspirations of his own and will challenge Alcine for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental light-middleweight title, while Scotty Cardle will battle Maxi Hughes for the Central Area lightweight belt.
China Clarke defends his English cruiserweight title against Blackpool's Matty Askin and former Team GB stars Callum Smith and Thomas Stalker are also in action.
