Dario German Balmaceda and George Groves: Fight on undercard of the Darren Barker bill (Lawrence Lustig/Matchroom)

George Groves reckons his debut for the Matchroom stable could lead to a major title fight as early as September.

The unbeaten super-middleweight takes on Argentine Dario German Balmaceda on the undercard of Darren Barker's clash with Simone Rotolo at Wembley less than a week after signing for Eddie Hearn.

Groves is already confirmed on the bill for May's Sky Box Office super fight between Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler, and the Commonwealth champion's ambitions extend beyond that.

"Eddie's got big ambitions for me," said the Londoner, who weighed in at 12st 3lbs for his non-title contest with Balmaceda.

"It's going to be great exposure for me boxing on a pay-per-view show. I've done it before on David Haye's undercards, but to be part of a super-middleweight pay-per-view will be excellent.

"With the momentum of that I'll get my own show in London maybe in September, and hopefully it'll be for a major title."

Groves is targeting the winner of March's Arthur Abraham-Robert Stieglitz showdown for the WBO belt and, beyond that, is not ruling out a crack at Froch.

He told Ringside this week: "Once you make that step up to fighting at world level, fighting for world titles and becoming a world champion there is no step back, so obviously that's a bit daunting.

"But I know I'm ready. I've got a great team around me, as I say, I've been putting the work in the gym. It's about time I need to step up and if the fights can be made I'll take them, and soon I'll be a world champion."
