Thomas Stalker made a winning professional debut when he won every round against the durable Kristian Laight.

Stalker was having his first contest without the vest and headguard after belatedly signing with Matchroom several months after leading Team GB at the Olympics.

At 28 Stalker has little room for manoevre but he showed his range with an impressive outing against journeyman Laight, a notoriously hard man to shift.

And so it proved at York Hall as Stalker unloaded body shots and sharp left hands to have his opponent on the back foot throughout the four rounder.

The third was the most difficult for Laight but he survived some punishment to see out the fight, after which Stalker admitted he felt a little rusty after such a long time out the ring.

"I felt a bit flat to be honest and it's going to take a few more fights to get into my groove," the popular Liverpudlian told Sky Sports.

"He's a good journeyman, knows all the tricks and he's learnt me something in there, so I'm happy.

"I'm learned to sink my punches in a bit more, I'm loving it in the gym and I'm going to learn with each fight."

Promoter Eddie Hearn is looking to keep Stalker busy and he will next appear on the big Liverpool Echo bill on March 30 headed by Tony Bellew.
