Daniel Geale defended his IBF middleweight title with a convincing points win over Anthony Mundine in Sydney.

Geale suffered a split decision loss to Mundine in 2009, but he controlled the rematch, hurting the fellow aboriginal fighter on a number of occasions before taking the win with two scores of 117-111 and 116-112.

The champion seized command from the start and his crisp combinations soon picked holes in Mundine's defences.

Mundine's frustrations quickly boiled over and referee Robert Byrd warned him twice in round three for use of the head, while he was cautioned about use of the head in the fourth and holding and hitting in the sixth.

As the fight slipped away, Mundine tried to stand and trade, but he was forced onto the back foot by Geale, who appeared to possess more firepower.

Geale displayed his dominance by hurting his outgunned foe, but Mundine survived to hear the final bell.
