Kelly Pavlik is still likely to face top level opposition in the coming months despite missing out on a fight with Andre Ward.
Pavlik was set to clash with the undisputed super-middleweight champion next month but Ward had to cancel after being told he requires surgery on a shoulder problem.
However, 'The Ghost' has reportedly been in talks with both Lucian Bute and Arthur Abraham with a clash with the former appearing most likely for early-2013.
Bute still has a contract to take up a re-match with Carl Froch, but after the Briton was given permission to make a fight with Mikkel Kessler the Canadian is on the lookout for an opponent in the New Year.
And Pavlik could fit the bill in a clash that nearly happened last year but fell apart due to the American's personal issues and a dispute with Top Rank Promotions.
Both Bute and Pavlik are looking to re-establish themselves and a mouth-watering clash would represent a crossroads fight for each.
The former has had one outing since that devastating first career loss to Froch last May, while former middleweight champion Pavlik is rebuilding with four wins since changing trainer and moving to California following a defeat to Sergio Martinez.
Meanwhile, Abraham is also thought to be interested in Pavlik after his re-match with Robert Stieglitz - the man from whom he took the WBO title - which is scheduled for the spring.
