Amir Khan believes he will return to the ring in April before securing a rematch with Danny Garcia later next year.
The Bolton fighter's career was in the balance following defeats to Lamont Peterson and Garcia, but he bounced back with a crucial win over Carlos Molina in Los Angeles last weekend.
Khan now wants one more fight next spring before lining up a possible shot at WBA and WBC light-welterweight champion Garcia, who defends his titles against Zab Judah in February.
"The next fight is going to be around April time," he said. "That will give me a nice little break. Then I want to be back in the ring again and then trying for the rematch with Danny Garcia.
"Next year should be a very good year for me. In April I'm looking at it being a fight in the 140lbs division for a world title, and then at unifying it with the Garcia fight - if he gets through his fight with Zab Judah.
"Boxing is a sport where one punch can change a fight, but hopefully he wins that fight, I get through mine in April and then maybe at the end of the year it will be a good fight with him."
Khan admitted there had been "talk" about a possible meeting with American Josesito Lopez in April, but he added that "nothing has been finalised".
He also allayed fears that he suffered fractured hands against Molina, saying: "My hands are fine. I thought they might be fractured because they were quite painful after the fight but it was only swelling."
