Carson Jones: Keeping busy with an eight-rounder on Saturday night

Carson Jones will take on 'Irish Lightning' Dean Byrne in an eight-round contest at Olympia on Saturday night.

Jones gave Kell Brook the fight of his life in July and made such an impression that he was invited back to take on Lee Purdy on Matchroom's 'Christmas Cracker' bill.

However, Purdy was forced to pull out on Monday having succumbed to a virus leaving Jones without an opponent.

But having had a lengthy camp promoter Eddie Hearn was keen to find a late replacement for the American, with Byrne taking up the offer.

The 28-year-old has been around, spending periods of his career in Australia and the United States, but has lost two of his last three contests in the UK.

It should be nothing more than a 'keep-busy' fight for Jones, who will undoubtedly have bigger fish to fry when he returns to action Stateside in January.

Hearn remains hopeful the Purdy fight can be re-arranged for next year.
