Nathan Cleverly is looking forward to a big 2013 after a year that saw just two low-key defences of his WBO light-heavyweight title.
The Welshman has taken a lot of flak for his fights against the unheralded pair of Tommy Karpency and Shawn Hawk, as his career stutters in the slow lane.
However, he is hoping promoter Frank Warren can seal some big match-ups in the New Year following an early mandatory defence.
"It has been a slow year but I think the American experience was very positive for me," he told the South Wales Argus of his recent victory over Hawk in Los Angeles.
"The fight went to plan, I got the stoppage win I wanted and I impressed some influential figures.
"Working at the Wild Card Gym with Freddie Roach was great too and is something I'll definitely think about doing again soon.
"I can only improve next year. Next up will probably be the mandatory challenger Robin Krasniqi in February.
"Once that is out of the way I'll concentrate on the bigger fights and making it a year to remember."
