Steve Williams will take on Kirk Goodings in a 12-rounder on Friday after Darren Hamilton pulled out of their British title fight.

Domestic light-welterweight champion Hamilton suffered a perforated eardrum in sparring leaving Williams - not for the first time this year - without an opponent.

But 23-year-old Goodings (7-0) has answered the call at the 11th hour with the vacant British Masters title on the line.

"All credit to Steve he wanted to box on and I am sure the fight against Goodings will be full of action," said promoter Frank Maloney

"Hamilton still has to defend against Steve, but he cannot afford to slip up against Goodings who jumped at the chance.

"Several decent names were also approached but they either refused or had fights coming up."

The fight takes place on the David Price vs Matt Skelton undercard at Aintree Racecourse.
