Scott Quigg: Targeting a big fight in the USA

Scott Quigg will target a big fight in America next year after his superb stoppage win over Rendall Munroe on Saturday.

Munroe was expected to give the unbeaten Quigg a stern test, but the former world title challenger wilted under a barrage of body shots and two knockdowns signalled the end of the fight in the sixth round.

Quigg's win earned him the WBA interim super-bantamweight belt and his manager Paul Speak hopes the Bury fighter will get the chance to showcase his skills Stateside as he pursues a world title shot in 2013.

Speak told The Bolton News: "I'm sure from that performance that the Americans will be watching and wondering.

"It's down to (promoters) Team Hatton to come up with an opponent and tell us where they see him going, but I don't think it's going to be too far away before he is going across to fight in America."

Quigg became the first man to stop Munroe, who went 12 rounds with former WBC champion Toshiaki Nishioka, and the 24-year-old believes he has the punch power needed to mix at the top level.

"That was my best performance yet and I think it showed that (my goal of being world champion in 2013) is a realistic expectation," he said.

"Munroe is tough, no-one has ever stopped him before, but I was hurting him and it shows I have the power to go up a level.

"I've always dreamed of being a world champion. I want to beat all the top guys in the division, that's who I want to be able to mix with, and this performance proves I'm on the right track."
