Unbeaten Adrien Broner seized the WBC lightweight title on Saturday with an eighth-round technical knockout of Mexican Antonio DeMarco on Saturday.

DeMarco had no answer to Broner's power and speed at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall, with Broner taking charge from the opening bell and finally sending his opponent to his knees with a right to the body and swinging left.

DeMarco's corner immediately threw in the towel and the referee called a halt at 1:49 of the eighth.

"Once I'm in there, where I've got a gameplan and I see something I go after it," said Broner, who improved to 25-0 with 21 victories inside the distance. "I knew he would have the skills and the will to beat me."

On the undercard, Seth Mitchell was knocked out by Johnathon Banks in the second round of their fight for the vacant WBC International heavyweight title.

The previously unbeaten Mitchell was down three times in the second round and, on the third occasion with his legs gone, referee Eddie Cotton waved it off.

Banks, a former cruiserweight, was the much smaller man but sent Mitchell to the canvas for the first time with a left hook-right hand combination.

Mitchell was able to regain his feet but was soon down again after taking a clean right hand and, although he continued briefly, it was all over with 23 second remaining in the round.
