Kal Yafai and Scotty Cardle maintained their perfect professional records with contrasting victories on the undercard at the CapitalFM Arena in Nottingham.

Bantamweight Yafai needed 52 seconds to get rid of Pio Atonio Nettuno, putting his opponent down with a superb left hook to the body that left the Italian gasping for air.

Nettuno never looked likely to beat the count, meaning he became the latest victim for the man from Birmingham inside the distance.

Yafai, who had been due to go eight rounds for the first time in his career, landing heavy blows to both body and head before coming up with a power shot good enough to stop a man who had gone the distance in his two failed attempts to win the Italian title.

"You don't get paid for overtime," Yafai, who will be back out again on December 8, told Sky Sports afterwards. "To be honest it wasn't a big shot, but I put him away. I was kind of gutted because I wanted a few more rounds."

Cardle, in contrast, was taken eight rounds by gritty Miguel Aguilar, though the light-welterweight from Lytham was never in danger of suffering a first defeat.

The 23-year-old tagged his opponent on several occasions but was unable to force a stoppage as he moved to 8-0, his cause not being helped by Aguilar's liking to hold on at every opportunity.

Indeed, the Barcelona-based Nicaraguan was twice deducted points in the contest, the second time for use of the elbow. A clash of heads also left Cardle with a cut, meaning he is unlikely to be able to fight in Poland at the start of next month.

The referee scored the bout 80-70 in Cardle's favour, though the winner was not completely happy with his night's work, saying: "It was so frustrating really. But that was part of the learning and I'm glad to get the eight rounds."
