The GB Lionhearts opened up their World Series of Boxing challenge with a convincing win over the USA Knockouts.

The Lionhearts finished as 4-1 winners in the Group B encounter in California, with lightweight Joe Cordina, middleweight Anthony Fowler, bantamweight Sean McGoldrick and guest heavyweight Uaine Fa securing victories.

Welshman Joseph Cordina overcame Texan Eric Fowler on 48-47 on all three scorecards, while Tongan-born Fa also gained a unanimous decision beating Avery Gibson 49-46 49-46 48-47.

Anthony Fowler stopped Marquis Moore 21 seconds into the second round, while Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sean McGoldrick claimed a split decision against Mexican Braulio Avila Juarez.

McGoldrick impressed two judges with scores of 50-45 and 48-47, with the third judge scoring the fight 48-47 in favour of McGoldrick.

The only loss of the night for the Lionhearts came when late substitute Zlatko Ledic was stopped by 27-year-old southpaw Kennedy Katende in the final round.
