Larry 'The Natural' Ekundayo is set to drop down a weight division after storming to victory in Prizefighter - Light-middleweights on Saturday night.

Ekundayo entered the contest as a two-fight rookie but emerged with a huge profile and £34,000 richer after three impressive wins at York Hall.

The 30-year-old had been well-touted beforehand though and the whispers proved justified as he overcame naturally bigger men to lift the trophy.

"I've been telling people about him for ages," promoter Spencer Fearon told Sky Sports. "We had to take it because he's actually a welterweight - we'll drop back down now and he'll do great things.

"Hopefully we'll get on Sky Sports and you can see this kid gleam, he's brilliant."

Nigeria-born Ekundayo's pro career has been delayed by visa problems and he was thankful for the chance to prove himself on the big stage.

"It feels good," he said. "It means a lot to me because I've come a long way. I'm very grateful to showcase my talents on Sky Sports and for Spencer to have faith in me. It means a lot to me.

"My style is natural, I can switch styles and I can adapt."

Fearon has numerous options at 147lb for Ekundayo with new British champion Frankie Gavin undoubtedly on his radar.

Promoter Eddie Hearn paid tribute to final runner-up Terry Carruthers, who has been in with most of the UK's best light-middleweights and was fully deserving of a big payday.

"A special mention for Terry Carruthers, what a warrior and sometimes that's what Prizefighter's all about," said Hearn.

"He's come here tonight, made £16,000 and a name for himself. He was beaten by the better man but what a game performance.

"Larry stopped him - we had to spend that money somehow, but he deserves it."
