Gavin Rees will face John Murray in a potentially explosive clash on the 'Christmas Cracker' bill on 8 December.

The British duo have been involved in some thrilling fights and this lightweight showdown should provide plenty of drama on a big night of boxing at the London Olympia.

Rees currently holds the European and British belts after halting Derry Mathews in July and the former world champion will move closer to another crack at a top title if he is victorious.

Murray put on a courageous display when he was stopped by Brandon Rios in his challenge for the WBA belt in March, but he can put his career back on track with a win over the highly-ranked Welshman.

Eddie Hearn, who promotes Rees, said: "I am over the moon to get this fight made.

"It's one that I've wanted to make for a while and one that Gavin wants badly.

"They say styles make fights and we know what we are going to get with this one - December 8 is going to be an epic night of boxing."

Lee Purdy's eagerly anticipated welterweight battle with Carson Jones is also on the bill and Darren Barker returns against Kerry Hope in a crucial middleweight meeting.

English light-middleweight champion Erick Ochieng will also be in action, while John Ryder faces English middleweight king Kreshnik Qato.

Chris Evangelou will be hoping to gain revenge in his light-welterweight rematch with Danny Connor and Team GB stars Scotty Cardle and Martin J. Ward continue their education in the professional ranks.
