Kal Yafai had Gladwin down three times in the first round in Sheffield
Kal Yafai is the talk of the town after his latest victory against Scott Gladwin at the Sheffield MotorPoint Arena on Saturday.
Yafai made it four from four in the paid ranks with his most impressive victory to date, dispatching the domestic contender from Halifax in short order.
"You are talking about a kid who I think can win a British title now."
The former Team GB member and Beijing Olympian dropped his opponent three times in the opening round with spiteful shots to the body and head, and another knockdown in the next saw the referee step in.
"This kid has unbelievable talent and he is going to be around for a long time," said promoter Eddie Hearn. "He's a name to be remember, and we need to step him up to eight rounds on the Carl Froch bill.
"You are talking about a kid who I think can win a British title now. We want to reign him back but at the same time we've got to set him free, because he's going to be one of the top British fighters.
"We're trying to make the Jason Booth fight, I think that's a great fight for him at the moment."
Yafai was pleased to claim victory inside the distance after being taken the full six rounds by tough Mexican Victor Koh last time.
"I wanted to get him out of there so I'm happy," he said. "The body shots are starting to pay although some were a bit short, but it's all baby steps and I'm learning my trade.
"That's why Eddie's keeping me busy and I'm learning all the time. Scott came and had a go so I respect him for that but I don't think there's many bantamweights that can live with my power."
