Matt Skelton secured a date with David Price later this year with his third successive stoppage victory in 2012.

The Bedford brawler, a former British and Commonwealth champion who once fought for the WBA title, beat Croatian with Jakov Gospic on the Price vs Harrison undercard.

The veteran, now in his mid-40s, was in typically marauding mood as he smothered his opponent's work from the outset.

Skelton had already put his authority on the contest when an accidental clash of heads opened up a nasty cut over Gospic's left eye, and after he took a knee later in round two the referee waved the fight off with the Balkan journeyman bleeding heavily.

Veteran Skelton came into the fight in great shape and clearly still holds title ambitions, but it still comes as something of a surprise to get another shot at the domestic belts.

But the fight was easy to make with promoter Frank Maloney looking after the careers of both heavyweights, and a December 8 fight with Price keeps the Liverpudlian busy before he will look to step up a level in the New Year.

Meanwhile, Jon Lewis Dickinson (12-2) won the vacant British cruiserweight title with a largely forgetable points victory over Shane McPhilbin.

The latter had lost a controversial fight with Enzo Maccarinelli earlier this year but when the Welshman was stripped of the title for failing a doping test, McPhilbin had a second chance.

But he was unable to take it as Dickinson's classier work caught the eye of the judges in a scrap where the two styles failed to gel.

The scorers had it 118-110 (twice) and 117-111 in favour of the man from Co. Durham, who should now move on to better things.
