Ajose Olusegun suffered his first professional defeat as he was stopped by the heavy-hitting Lucas Matthysse in Las Vegas.

The two light-welterweights served up a treat for the crowd at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, though Matthysse always looked a cut above his opponent from the early stages.

Powerful body shots slowed down Olusegun, who seemed unwilling to take a backward step in his attempts to brawl with the Argentine.

The Nigerian did well to stay on his feet after being rocked in the fourth but then showed signs that he could be set to find a way back into the contest in the second half.

Several combinations he landed would have floored a lesser man but Matthysse - whose only losses in his 35-fight professional career came against Devon Alexander and Zab Judah - was happy to stand toe-to-toe.

The end came in the 10th when the South American landed some huge punches to send his rival to the canvas. With just seconds remaining, the referee decided he'd seen enough and waved the contest off with Olusegun still down on the ground.
