Hatton fighter likely to miss out on Burns fight in March

Anthony Crolla may have to wait a little longer before he gets a shot at WBO interim lightweight champion Ricky Burns. The British title holder was hoping to challenge Burns when the Scot makes his first defence of the belt at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow on March 10. However, promoter Frank Warren is currently favouring a different opponent for Burns, leaving Crolla - promoted by Ricky Hatton - out in the cold. "There has been an offer, but the fight is not happening at the moment," a spokesperson for Warren told the Manchester Evening News. "We are close to announcing another opponent." But Crolla (23-2) has not given up hope of landing the fight of his life. "Sometimes the hardest part of boxing is everything that comes with it," he said. "The easiest thing is getting in the ring and fighting. "If the fight is going to be done, it's got to be done soon. I just want the chance for a world title. I'm in the gym training hard. If it happens, I will be ready for it. "It's down to the promoters to work together. All I can do is fight."
