Golovkin v Geale: Gennardy can step up to take on super-middleweights next, says Jim Watt

Jim Watt says we could see Golovkin in Froch and Ward range...

Gennady Golovkin is the full package, simple as that.

Fight Night - Live

We used to discuss who was the best middleweight in the world between him and Sergio Martinez but not any more -Golovkin is the No 1 in that division without doubt.

But don't just put that down to Miguel Cotto's arrival, Golovkin is probably better than many people think. He is certainly more than a big puncher, that's for sure, there is a lot more to his game.

His amateur career is outstanding and the performance he has put on as a professional showed that he has everything: he can box, he can punch, he knows how to set opponents up, how to manouevre them and he took a few shots from Osumanu Adama last time out and also has a good chin.

You are always looking for weaknesses when boxers burst onto the scene and I am sure Daniel Geale has been doing that ahead of Saturday night and his other opponents will, but I really don't think they'll find any.

Golovkin can go all the way to the very top but the trouble we get these days is the best fighters really have their own titles and sometimes they are happy with that and aren't interested in unifying, so the best don't always meet the best.

Yes Cotto has moved up and produced that fantastic performance against Martinez but I don't really see many people wanting to try and challenge or unify Golovkin's WBA title, unless there is a shed-load of money on offer! You can do that when you're up there, like Floyd Mayweather, but he is not.

What that means inside the ring is he is going to find it tough to prove how good he actually is. You need to show it by taking on the best and of course, they do not want to risk it, that's for sure. If he can get matched with the best out there I really do think this guy can really go all the way to the very top of the pound-for-pound rankings. I have no doubt about that.

Right now I am looking at Golovkin moving into the super-middleweight division. It is a cracking division, with Andre Ward, Carl Froch and the rest, and if he moves up they will have natural weight advantages and that might tempt them to get in with him. Other than that, it is hard to see where he goes next.

That is a long way off though and right now I am looking at Golovkin moving into the super-middleweight division. It is a cracking division with Andre Ward, Carl Froch and the rest, and if he moves up they will have natural weight advantages and that might tempt them to get in with him. Other than that, it is hard to see where he goes next.

No-one wants to fight Guillermo Rigondeaux either but it is the opposite when it comes to Golovkin! Not only is the middleweight king big, big box office, he has stepped up into the pro game, whereas the Rigondeaux needs to remind himself that it's not just a case of winning for your country, it is entertainment and it needs excitement and drama. He is capable of that but he doesn't seem too bothered.

Golovkin is different class. He's always going for the early, explosive finish and he commits himself. He is aggressive, he is good defensively and he can pretty much take you out with one punch.

There will be guys he comes across that have the style that can give him problems but Daniel Geale is not one of them, I’m afraid. He does wear his heart on his sleeve, he is as brave as they come and when that bell sounds he will give it a go with Golovkin and exchange punches.

The best he will do is get stuck in for a few rounds before the inevitable 27th stoppage comes.
