British challenger blasted by WBC president for weigh-in slap

Dereck Chisora will reportedly face a hefty fine from the World Boxing Council after his slap to the face of Vitali Klitschko at the weigh-in prior to their heavyweight contest. In extraordinary scenes in Munich on Friday, Chisora caught everyone by surprise as he struck out at the Ukrainian champion after the two came together for a traditional stare-down. His actions drew criticism not only from Klitschko - who claimed the move demonstrated the Briton's "nervousness" - but also from his own trainer Don Charles who branded his charge's behaviour as "unacceptable".

Hefty fine

But Chisora's cheap shot is now likely to end up hurting his own wallet with WBC president Jose Sulaiman understood to be ready to fine the challenger $50,000 (£31,500). "This is definitely a lack of respect for the sport and completely unacceptable," Sulaiman told www.boxingscene.com. "It was a cheap shot and my message is that there is a fine so he'll [Chisora] feel it. "He's no gentleman at all and he's failed in what we expect from boxers. "He wanted Vitali to lose control but Vitali will make him pay for this in the ring, definitely."
