Amir Khan is fully focused on Chris Algieri despite continuing speculation he will be Floyd Mayweather's next opponent.

The two-time world champion is preparing for his second fight at welterweight against Algieri in the American's home city, New York on Friday.

With Mayweather having disposed of Manny Pacquiao and seemingly set for one last bout, Khan has been mentioned as a possible final foe for the American superstar - but the Bolton man insists that looking past his next opponent is a mistake he has made before and will not be repeating.

Khan told Sky Sports News HQ: "There's talk of a Mayweather fight and other big fights but I'm just fully focused on this one. There's always talk about that happening but I've made the mistake of looking past opponents before and I'm not going to make that mistake again.

"I'm within touching distance of a big mega-fight but like I said, we have to get past this fight on Friday night. Hopefully we get past this in good fashion and I think the Mayweather fight will be there. People were already talking about it at the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

"Preparations have been going well. I've done 250 rounds of sparring for this fight so I'm more than ready and I just can't wait to get in that ring and face Chris Algieri.

"He's from New York and I'm sure that'll motivate him to work hard and win this fight. He's in front of his own fans and that's definitely a boost for him - also he's been the distance with Manny Pacquiao and beaten some decent names in boxing.

"He's a former world champion a tough test but we're fully focused and I'm sure we can get the win."

Another possibly future opponent for the Olympic silver medalist is domestic rival Kell Brook, who defends his world IBF welterweight title against Frankie Gavin on an action-packed night of Sky Box Office boxing.

Khan added: "It's not only about winning but about winning in good style. I have to box smartly, stick to my gameplan and just sending a statement around the world about how good Amir Khan is.

"I'll be watching Kell Brook against Frankie Gavin because it's a day after my fight. I think Kell has the skills to win because I think he's a level above Gavin but I think it'll be a good fight."
