Ricky Burns and Jamie McDonnell will be in action on the same day as Eddie Hearn's Birmingham fight night, making it a busy day for the promoter.
McDonnell will unify the bantamweight titles with Tomoki Kameda before Burns faces fellow former world champion Omar Figueroa on May 9, with both fights taking place in San Antonio, Texas.
Hearn is also promoting a Birmingham event on the same night, featuring a host of British talent, so it promises to be a Transatlantic night to remember for fight fans.
“McDonnell v Kameda is on the Burns card as chief support. It’s a massive night for British boxing,” he said.
“It’s a huge fight, a unification fight for the WBO and WBA titles. It’s a day-time fight in Texas, United States, which will be transmitted at prime-time in the UK.
“We’ve got our May 9 Birmingham show so it’s going to be like Sky Sports Soccer Saturday – in the studio, flicking between Frankie Gavin v Chris van Heerden and McDonnell v Kameda and Kal Yafai’s WBC silver title fight, then back to Texas, then onto Matthew Macklin, Sam Eggington, then finally Burns v Figueroa.
“It’s a mouth-watering night for fight fans.”
