Coyle registered a stunning KO in his last fight

Tommy Coyle fights Martin Gethin on Saturday's Hull card - so will your man get the job done?

Live Fight Night

Jamie says: I’ve known Gethin for years, he’s a former British champion and he’s as tough as they come. He’s a decent pressure fighter with a left hook to the body. But Tommy’s at the stage where he’s turning into a world-class fighter. If he gets to where I believe he can get, he’ll beat Gethin and look good doing it. But he can’t take his eye off the ball if he wants the Luke Campbell fight which is talk of the town in Hull – Gethin is not a tick-over, keep-busy fight.

If he goes about it the way we know he can, using the tactics we’ve set out, I do believe he’ll stop him. Gethin has been known to cut up, and Tommy is so sharp and accurate. Gethin will fall short with shots because Tommy has lovely footwork and doesn't walk into shots. It could be an accumulation, the referee could stop him due to cuts – but I think he may stop him properly without the referee having to intervene.

How is your return to the gym going after your leg operation a few weeks ago?

Jamie says: It was a pretty big surgery. I had one of my nerves rebuilt because it was severed. I’ve had to keep my leg straight for three weeks so I’ve basically been in the house. Every now and again Nigel Travis, who helps me in the gym, picks me up and takes me down there. I can orchestrate from my chair and throw my two pennies' worth in! But we have a plan in place – Tommy has been through it several times before, and me and Nigel are always on the same page. I’ve watched sparring and pad work, everything is running normally.

Rocky Fielding is boxing in Hull too, and wants the Smith brothers if he beats Oleg Fedotovs...

If you’re not aiming above yourself you haven’t got any ambition. Fielding against Paul or Callum Smith would be massive in Liverpool.
Jamie Moore

Jamie says: We trained together at the back-end of my career, Rocky had a very amateur style then. He’s added little bits without taking away from the basics – he’s now got body punching and wicked, short uppercuts from the inside that have put paid to a few victims. I like that he’s going after the Smith brothers, it shows what he’s about. If you’re not aiming above yourself you haven’t got any ambition. Fielding against Paul or Callum Smith would be massive in Liverpool.

At the moment, Fielding v Paul is the bigger fight but in 12 months Fielding v Callum might be bigger. Fielding should also go against guys that the likes of George Groves has beaten, like he did with Noe Gonzalez. If he can improve on other fighter’s performances he’ll make a name for himself.

If you have time to look towards the States on Saturday, Keith Thurman is fighting Robert Guerrero...

Thurman strikes Leonard Bundu

Jamie says: Guerrero has been around the block a few times now. He gave a good account of himself against Floyd Mayweather. Thurman is a big punching welterweight, and he’s a big guy with ambition. It will be a good test because Guerrero can punch and Thurman hasn’t passed the chin check yet. It’s interesting to see if Guerrero can stand up to Thurman’s punching – but also vice versa, can Thurman handle what Guerrero will put on him?

Latest Boxing Stories

Guerrero isn’t your typical southpaw, he comes forward and swings wildly. He’s hard to read and the shots come from different angles. He’ll pose Thurman some difficult problems so I’m interested to see if he comes through that. Normally I don't like cocky talkers but Thurman hasn't done anything to rub me up the wrong way yet!

The excitement is already building for the massive fight in Las Vegas

Jamie says: I wonder how both fighters will react and respond? I’ve got a feeling Pacquiao will play it calmly, very smiley and happy. I think Mayweather will be trying to come across as the good guy rather than the bad guy. He craves attention but I think he wants the good sort of attention – Mayweather doesn’t like being in people’s bad books. He wants to be loved so I think he’ll try and make people favour him in the fight against Pacquiao.

If something gets said, it might play on the fighters’ minds for a few days. But by the time their next press conference or the fight comes around, a lot of water will have passed under the bridge. These public appearances won’t affect them, it’s the training camp and the mental strength of the fighters that will ultimately decide the outcome of their fight.
