Freddie Roach believes the contrasting styles between his fighter Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather would make a contest between the pair an exciting one.

A long-awaited bout between arguably the two best fighters of their generation could get the green light this week according to the latest reports.

And Roach insists Pacquiao, who has been knocked out in three of the five defeats he has suffered in his 64-fight career, will dazzle fans if the contest does eventually get the go-ahead.

“I think the obligation to make it exciting should be there,” Roach said.

“I know my guy will be there. I know that. I don’t think the other guy will be because I don’t really think he cares about the fans.

“I think he just wants to do enough to win. Manny is not like that. That’s why Manny has been knocked out a few times because he does take chances and that could happen again.”

Pacquiao appeared to hint that the bout is edging closer after posting a couple of photos and a message about an upcoming “m…fight” on Instagram on Wednesday.

“Off to work now but after a few days back to serious training for my up coming m…fight.”

But Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum repeatedly declined to comment and claimed to be in the dark when asked about the chances of a potential megafight between the pair taking place.

"I know nothing," Arum said at a media day for Chinese boxer Zou Shiming on Tuesday.

However, talking to analysts about fourth-quarter earnings on Tuesday, MGM Grand chairman James Murren revealed his optimism about attracting the “biggest fight” to the Las Vegas resort on May 2.

"We hope it's a big, big fight," Murren said. "If it is the fight we hope it is, then it is the biggest fight."
