Eddie Hearn says he expects to see Carl Froch back in the ring, possibly as soon as this summer.

And Hearn says there are new names in the mix to possibly take on the 37-year-old Brit, who had to pull out of a planned spring fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr due to an elbow injury suffered in training.

Froch last fought on 31 May last year, memorably knocking out George Groves in the eighth round of their rematch, having claimed a controversial victory in their first meeting seven months previously.

Since that victory, Froch has said he would be keen to take part in one more mega-fight but would be more than happy to retire if one could not be arranged.

And Hearn told Sky Sports News HQ: “We will try to reschedule the (Julio Cesar Chavez Jr) fight for the summer now and other names have also come into the hat.

“There is Bernard Hopkins, Gennady Golovkin (against Froch) is a fight that everybody would love to see, Mikkel Kessler potentially and, of course, James DeGale is the mandatory challenger for Carl Froch.

“I think Carl Froch will fight again but he is in a great position where, if he doesn’t, he can always hold his head up high and remember that great night at Wembley in front of 80,000.

“But, because of that night, he needs something that is going to make him get up at six o’clock in the morning. Something to make him do those hill runs and have those tough sparring sessions.

“But he has still got the fire in his belly.”
