European and Commonwealth super-bantamweight champion Kid Galahad took another step towards securing a world title showdown after brushing aside Adeilson Dos Santos via a unanimous points margin to land the IBF youth title.

The Sheffield fighter treated his home crowd to a dominant display on Saturday night, winning almost every round against a gutsy Dos Santos who deserves great credit for taking the fight the distance after being sent to the canvas on two occasions.

The judges scored the contest 119-107, 117-109, 120-105 all in favour of Galahad, who has now won 18 successive fights since turning professional.

Galahad, who called out British world title holders Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton in the lead-up to his fight with the previously unbeaten Dos Santos, made an immediate statement by sending his opponent to the floor with the final shot of the first round.

A right-hand over the top from Galahad sent Dos Santos tumbling on the stroke of the bell but it wasn’t until the end of the seventh round that the Brazilian was seriously hurt again.

Dangerous

Another slick combination left Dos Santos wobbling, however the bell once again came to his rescue.

With the Brazilian fading, Galahad produced another fierce straight right straight to the target in round 10 which produced a full count from referee Howard Foster, who resisted the temptation to stop the contest there and then.

The 24-year-old Galahad was forced to settle for an 18th successive win via a landslide points margin and will now have his sights set on a surely inevitable all-British showdown with either Quigg and Frampton in the near future.

Speaking afterwards, he told Channel 5: “He was a dangerous opponent, young and dangerous and I couldn’t let him settle but I took him apart from the get-go.

“He’s a tough kid. Every time I hit him I got shooting pains up my right hand. He’s a tough, tough kid.

"It was a good display I'll give myself 8/10. I did some things wrong but I'm still learning.

"I don't think Scott Quigg will ever fight me but Carl Frampton, December 6, we've got a date and I'll happily fight him on that date if he wants to defend his title."
