Scott Quigg insists he remains focused on his fight against Stephane Jamoye as talk of a potential superfight against Carl Frampton continues to build.

The super-bantamweight defends his WBA title against Jamoye in Manchester this Saturday, live on Sky Sports, just a week after Frampton won the IBF title by defeating Kiko Martinez in Belfast.

After the success of the recent bouts between Carl Froch and George Groves, British boxing fans are eagerly surveying the domestic landscape for the next potential superfight.

Quigg and Frampton are natural candidates with both expressing their desire to make the fight happen, but Quigg insists his sole focus is on his Belgian foe, who has performed well on these shores.

“First and foremost, Saturday night is the biggest fight of my career,” he said. “Those fights won’t happen unless I take care of business on Saturday.

“I’m feeling good. Training has gone well and I am looking forward to putting in the best performance of my career.

“He (Jamoye) has been over and fought Lee Haskins and he beat Lee Haskins. He fought a close decision loss to Jamie McDonnell.

“He is only 24 and has been boxing at a high level for a long time. This year he boxed for the WBC bantamweight title.

“He comes with good experience which should stand him in good stead, but I will have more than enough to take care of him on the night.”

Frampton impressed while claiming a unanimous decision victory over Martinez last weekend and Quigg hopes to match his rival with an equally dominant win.

“It’s not just about winning, it is about winning in style and then that fight is the one I want against Carl Frampton,” he said.

“Whenever he decides to get in the ring then that fight can happen. We have been hoping for the fight for a long time.

“But as I say, my focus isn’t on Carl Frampton at the moment; it is on Stephane Jamoye because I’ve got a real tough fight ahead of me.”

Despite Frampton’s recent world title triumph, Quigg remains adamant that he will be the winner if the pair do eventually meet.

When asked if Frampton would be toughest test to date, he said: “Definitely. But I will be his toughest test.

“I am 100 per cent confident if that fight happens that I will have my hand raised at the end.”

While Quigg may be keen to focus on what is front of him, his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing is more than happy to further look ahead.

Hearn said he is determined to make the fight with Frampton happen once Quigg gets past Jamoye.

“From my point of view, one of my jobs is to look to the future,” he said. “The Carl Frampton fight, we state again publically, in one we feel has to happen.

“Two great fighters – this fight has to happen. It has to happen for the fans. It has to happen for the broadcasters.

“But more importantly it has to happen for Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton because this is what you’re in the game for.

“It’s our obligation, as the management of the two teams, to make sure we deliver the most lucrative paydays and the most lucrative opportunities for our fighters.

“If this fight doesn’t happen, then people aren’t doing their jobs right.

“We get the job done on Saturday – and it’s going to be a great fight – and then myself and Scott Quigg, and Barry McGuigan and Carl Frampton, should sit down in a room and not leave until that fight is made.”
