Brian Rose: Keen to test himself at world title level
Brian Rose will face former world champion Joachim Alcine on April 20 in his hometown of Blackpool.
Rose has expressed a desire to step up in class after making a number of British title defences and he will pit his skills against the former WBA light-middleweight champion.
The Canadian was caught cold by Matthew Macklin in his last fight, suffering a first round knockout against the Birmingham middleweight in September, but he has proven himself at the top level.
Alcine inflicted Travis Simms' only defeat to take the WBA belt in 2007 and picked up a points win over hard-hitting countryman David Lemieux before running into Macklin.
Rose, who has suffered just a solitary defeat, is keen to stake his claim for fights against the division's top men.
"Anything put in front of me I'll take and I'm ready for the next chapter," he said. "I want to step on from British level up to world level and we'll see if I'm ready for that against Alcine. I think I am and so do the team so let's do it.
"I'm over the moon to land this fight and to get it at home is even better. I get great support in Blackpool and I hope they all turn up on April 20 for a great night."
Fellow Blackpool fighter Scotty Cardle targets his first pro title on the undercard when he takes on Maxi Hughes for the Central Area lightweight belt.
"I am ready to rise to a bigger challenge and get that first title in the bag," said Cardle. "I've got an important fight in Liverpool first (March 30) and then I'm looking to take the Central belt and meet the best in England."
