Sheffield Sharks made it through to the semi-finals of the BBL Cup for a third straight year as they pipped the Cheshire Phoenix 91-84 on Friday night.
The Sharks trailed with just under three minutes to play but a two-point shot from Zachariah Gachette sparked a decisive 11-3 scoring run against a Phoenix line-up that only used seven players throughout the contest.
Allen Payne scored a team-high 23 points for the hosts who will hope to do better than the previous two seasons when they have been beaten in the final four.
The Bristol Flyers are through to the semis for the first time after Doug Herring’s 32-point performance lifted them to a 90-82 over the Worcester Wolves.
Herring hit a buzzer beater as he poured in 18 points in an entertaining first half. The Wolves did get to within one through Chavis Holmes, who ended with 16, but Bristol held on in the closing stages.
League leaders Newcastle avoided an upset in the cup as they knocked out Leeds Force, winning 83-66 at Sport Central.
The Eagles - beaten in last season's final - stretched their winning run to seven games, Charles Smith managing a game-high 22 points with Rahmon Fletched adding 20.
