The Leicester Riders made it six wins from six matches in the BBL Championship as they ended the Newcastle Eagles' own unbeaten start to the season with a 75-63 victory on Tyneside.

Jay Couisnard played a starring role for the Riders by netting 27 points to lead all scorers in the match.

The visitors led 23-19 after the first quarter and doubled their advantage in the second quarter to go into half-time 44-36 to the good.

Some strong shooting in the third period saw the Riders open up a double-digit lead, although the Eagles rallied in the fourth quarter to close within nine points at one stage before fading in the closing minutes.

Newcastle are still top of the table but Leicester are now just two points behind with two games in hand.

Meanwhile, the Mersey Tigers remain rooted to the foot of the table after suffering a fifth straight defeat, the Worcester Wolves winning 54-86 at Knowsley.
