Indiana needed two overtime sessions to see off Washington 99-95 and maintain their push for the final play-off slot in the Eastern Conference.
CJ Miles, who collected 25 points, claimed a vital three-pointer during the second overtime period as the Pacers recovered from an eight-point deficit at the halfway mark.
Indiana can earn the eighth and final play-off place with a victory over Memphis on Wednesday or if Brooklyn lose at home to Orlando the same evening.
George Hill added 24 points for Indiana while Marcin Gortat and Bradley Beal top-scored on 19 for the Wizards.
Meanwhile, Jae Crowder was the hero for Boston who edged to a 95-93 victory against Toronto.
Crowder leapt above two Raptors defenders to sink the crucial basket with just 0.8 of a second left on the clock.
The win helped the Celtics become the No 7 seed in the Eastern Conference play-offs.
Lou Williams potted 16 points for the Raptors who remain one win shy of a setting a franchise single-season record.
In the day’s only other fixture, Los Angeles Clippers beat Phoenix 112-101.
Chris Paul scored 22 points, while Blake Griffin collected 13 of his 20 during the first quarter as the Clippers rolled into the play-offs with a seventh straight win.
The Clippers crossed the line slowing down after opening a 26-point advantage by halfway.
With seven players scoring in double figures, the Clippers won for the 14th time in 15 games and moved ahead of San Antonio and Houston in the race to secure the second seed in the Western Conference.
