The New York Knicks lost their unbeaten record this season as they slumped to a 105-95 defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedExForum in Tennessee.

The Knicks, who went into the game as the only NBA team yet to suffer a loss this term, had produced a fourth-quarter comeback to see off San Antonio on Thursday.

But they were unable to repeat the feat as Memphis centre Marc Gasol racked up 24 points and forward Zach Randolph added 20 to go with 15 rebounds, his eighth consecutive double-double.

The victory was the seventh on the trot for the Grizzlies (7-1) after a first night defeat - the best opening eight-game record in franchise history - and pushes their regular-season home winning streak to 15.

The Knicks trailed by just five points at half-time but were outscored 31-18 in the third quarter to fall 18 behind and out of contention.

Carmelo Anthony top scored for the visitors with 20 points but found himself in early foul trouble, which limited his contribution.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Batum scored a career-high 35 points as the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Houston Rockets 119-117 in overtime.

LaMarcus Aldridge netted 29 points for Portland, including a tiebreaking free throw and key turnaround jumper in the extra session, while Damian Lillard, a first-round pick out of Weber State, scored 16 of the Trail Blazers' last 21 points and finished with a career-high 27.
